Caravan Park in Bright

Bright sits right where the Ovens River comes down out of the high country.

Powered sites here are the bread and butter of the place. Most caravanners come through autumn for the leaves, the whole town goes gold and red around March through May, and it's honestly worth seeing at least once. Book early for that stretch though, it fills fast and we can't always try to squeeze in a late booking. Winter's quieter, good if you want the place to yourself and don't mind rugging up.

Kids can ride bikes around the loop roads without you stressing every five seconds. There's grass to kick a ball on, and the river's shallow enough in spots for a paddle on a hot day. We get a lot of repeat families, some booking the same week every January for years running. That's not an accident, it's because the kids ask for it.

Dogs are welcome too. We know plenty of caravanners won't travel without the family dog, so we've kept this a genuinely pet friendly caravan park rather than one that just says it is on the website and then makes you feel bad about it. Keep them on a lead around the amenities and pick up after them, that's about the only rule.

Cabins range from simple two-berth setups through to bigger ones that'll fit the whole extended family for a reunion. They're not fancy resort-style units, they're clean, they've got a kitchenette, and they do the job after a day of hiking or riding the Murray to Mountains rail trail.

Bright's part of the Alpine Valley, and that matters more than people realise when they're planning a trip. You've got Mount Buffalo close by, paragliders launching off the hill on a good wind day (worth a look even if you're not jumping off anything yourself), and enough wineries and breweries scattered through the valley to fill a week without repeating yourself. This isn't a one-night stopover town, plan for a few days.

We get asked a lot whether this is a good caravan park for big rigs or older vans without all the bells and whistles. Honestly, yes to both, but give the office a call before you arrive if you're on the larger side just so we can point you to the right site. Same goes for anyone towing a pop-top or an off-road van, we'll sort you out with something level and close to power.

Close enough to walk to the pub, far enough that you get birdsong instead of traffic noise. Not everyone wants that balance, some people want full isolation and that's fair enough, but if you want the town and the quiet, that's what you get here.
